On 4 December 2025, the Dutch Parliament ratified the Curaçao–Suriname and Curaçao–Cyprus tax treaties by means of tacit approval. This marked an important step in the formalisation of these treaties.
1. Status of the Curaçao–Suriname tax treaty
With regard to Suriname, the tax treaty is currently in the final phase of the local ratification procedure.
Upon completion of this procedure, the treaty can effectively enter into force.
2. Entry into force of the Curaçao–Cyprus tax treaty
The tax treaty between Curaçao and Cyprus was already ratified by Cyprus in May 2025. The treaty will enter into force on 28 February 2026, as officially published in the Treaty Series of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
3. Importance for the investment climate and economic growth
These developments constitute an important milestone for the international investment climate and contribute to legal certainty, fiscal transparency and sustainable economic growth within the treaty countries concerned.
