Suriname

Located on the northeastern coast of South America, Suriname borders the Atlantic Ocean to the north, Brazil to the south, French Guiana to the east, and Guyana to the west. It has a landmass of approximately 163,820 km², making it the largest Dutch-speaking country by area, with a population of around 635,000 (2025).

Suriname gained independence from the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1975 but has retained strong linguistic, cultural, and economic ties with the Dutch-speaking world. It is a sovereign republic with its own legal and tax system. The country is rich in natural resources, including bauxite, gold, and oil, and is currently experiencing significant growth due to offshore oil and gas discoveries and related infrastructure development.

Suriname’s tax framework is undergoing reform, with corporate income tax, personal income tax, VAT and various sector-specific levies.
